HUBER MEMORIAL CHAPEL

Designed to house a donated organ, this small chapel provides space for music recitals, meetings, and other functions not performed in the existing large church adjoining the building. A reflecting pool at the entry transits interior and exterior spaces, greeting visitors with the bubbling of water from a large boulder. Angled walls and ceiling help the acoustic resonance and present a visually engaging venue for music appreciation.

Creating an image of the crown of thorns, strips of glazing penetrate exterior walls to permit maximum daylighting while at the same time protecting privacy. Glass entry doors are flanked by panels of glass with clerestory glazing above. This illumination balances the effects of concealed glazing on the south and west sides of the structure. The chapel integrates the functional presence of the congregation by establishing new opportunites for community interaction within the existing complex.
