UNDERSTANDING

As we move through our experiences in life, each encounter represents a discovery about our inner selves as well as our relationships with the outer world.   The choices available in the present unfold from the results of decisions made in the past, just as the opportunities yet to arise will descend from the possibilities now at hand.  This process of becoming alive forms a continuity of conscious awareness.   The buildings we erect speak about what we remember, as well as to what we look forward.   Architecture crystallizes a given understanding about our place in the stream of universal phenomena.

Each person possesses a unique set of private memories and expectations, particular permutations of desire and taste, and individual interests and priorities.   When people organize themselves together, in groups large or small, they share a common fund of functions, activities, and goals.  The distinctions and differences that characterize the diversity of human beings result naturally in a wide variety of architectural designs.
